Haldon Court Devon July 2009

Haldon Court, Exmouth, Devon

Saturday 11 July – Saturday 18 July 2009

Our main Summer Holiday was at Haldon Court, Exmouth. People started to arrive from 4pm on Saturday afternoon and very soon we had taken over the hotel, and friendships were renewed again. We also welcomed three new people. That was a bold step for them, so well done to them all, and very quickly we all became good friends together. Soon our numbers increased as more friends joined us, although some could not stay the full week.

So, what did we do? Our first full day was a visit to Lyme Regis – some of us came back with sunburn, and yes, we were in the UK! Other half and full days were at the interesting National Trust property A La Ronde, a boat trip on the river Exe, an outing to the lovely city of Exeter, and trips to Canonteign Falls and Otterton Mill. We had spiritual input both mornings and evenings taken by our group (many thanks to all!!) or by the in-house minister Bruce Millar. The other evenings we had a quiz, dances, “mix-and-match” and an evening of entertainment with some wonderful contributions from guests.

Soon we found we were getting to the end of the week. Howard who was our wonderful main leader had to leave on Friday but his place was taken by our good friend and ex-holiday leader Bryan Conway who has supported us from the very first holiday we did. Thanks Bryan. He also worked for his bed and breakfast by doing an epilogue and joining in with us all!

Many thanks go to all who helped plan the weekend for all who took part.

So, what is next on the agenda? November takes us to Sunbury Court in Middlesex for a long weekend and that will be followed by New Year at Shallowford House, Staffordshire. I look forward to seeing you all again soon, so get booking up please!
