Foxhill Cheshire May 2009
Friday 1 May – Monday 4 May 2009
We enjoyed a truly wonderful Spring Bank Holiday Weekend with Elizabeth-Ann Horsford as our guest speaker at Foxhill Retreat Centre, Frodsham, Cheshire.
The theme of the weekend was Singleness, and Elizabeth-Ann delighted and inspired us with three encouraging teaching sessions – two specifically on Singleness, and the third on who we are in Christ Jesus, and she also shared her testimony during our Sunday evening service. Eighteen of us went to the local community church on Sunday morning, where the minister was just starting that very morning a series of sermons on, guess what, marriage!!
There were 24 of us altogether and we all enjoyed a lovely atmosphere of warmth and unity throughout the Weekend. We were admirably catered for by the helpful staff at the Foxhill Centre. The Centre itself was equipped to the highest possible standards and the food was consistently excellent – many thanks to all the staff, especially Helen and Ian for their help and attentiveness. The 60 acres of grounds were looking wonderful, and many of us enjoyed walks though the Arboretum, the spectacular view across the Mersey Estuary to Liverpool from the higher ground, and also getting lost in the maze! We had seen a pair of buzzards soaring overhead on a number of occasions and Chris and Joan skillfully managed to track down their nest.
During the weekend, many of us participated in a trip to the city of Chester with its lovely location on the River Dee, its atmospheric black-and-white timber houses and its ancient walls. Some of us even tried our hand at rowing on the river. On Saturday evening we enjoyed an evening of fun and games. Many of the guests participated, illustrating a wide variety of musical and other talents! The “construct-a-paper-giraffe” was excellent – please see the photographs in the “gallery” section! Sunday evening was a more spiritual/devotional occasion during which many of the guests also participated, sharing their gifts and insights.
All-in-all we had a wonderful time, enjoyed each other’s company very much and had a real sense of the Lord’s blessing on our time together. It was felt that such “themed” holidays were a really good idea, and it would be great if we could invite Elizabeth-Ann back to minister to us on a future occasion.
