Bible By The Beach May 2013
Report on Bible by the Beach, Eastbourne 2013
Bible by the Beach takes place each year in Eastbourne over the first May bank holiday. It’s about excellent Bible teaching, lively worship, informative and helpful seminars and a youth and children’s stream.
Six members of Single Christian Fellowship met together for the event this year – Patricia Deacon, Sarah Bull, Eileen Barton, Janice Leam, Paul Colegate and Hilda Jones. Several seminars were offered, based on the theme ‘Living and Longing’. Each member of the group attended the seminars which appealed to them giving an opportunity to share aspects of many of the presentations over coffee and lunch/dinner breaks.
The main emphasis of the weekend is on Bible Teaching. Each day a Bible study of 2 Peter was given by Hugh Palmer (Rector of All Souls Church, Langham Place , London . Hugh is currently Chair of ’New Word Alive’ – a national bible teaching week). The first study on Saturday was based on Chapter1 and titled “The Light of the Lord.” The study on Sunday was based on Chapter 2 “The Sovereignty of The Lord “ The final study on Monday considered Chapter 3 “The Coming of The Lord” – the coming that changes everything! It was uplifting to share the Word of God with such a large gathering.
A highlight of the event was a question and answer session with Helen Roseveare (a long serving missionary) which was held over Monday’s lunch time. We heard fascinating stories about what God has done in her life.) The session was so popular that extra seating had to be arranged.
Each evening a ‘worship celebration’ was held, led by Stuart Townend and his band where all the adults assembled together. Friday Evening Richard Coekin ( Director of Co-Mission and senior minister of Dundonald Church ) introduced us to “God’s Big Picture.’ On Saturday, John Stevens ( the first ever National Director of the Federation of Independent Evangelical Churches) enlightened us about ‘The Coming of the Lord.” Adrian Holloway (A best-selling Author and gifted communicator who was formerly a BBC radio and TV presenter) enthralled us with a presentation titled ‘ Up Close and Personal.” On the final day the closing celebration was held in the early afternoon, Peter Maiden ( Director of Overseas Mission U.K. International who was also Chairman of Keswick Ministries until 2011) closed the event by looking forward to “The Day of Salvation”.
It was a great privilege to have experienced a Bible based, spiritually enriching weekend, surrounded by a large gathering of Christian brothers and sisters.
My thanks to Patricia Deacon for inviting members of CSF to register with her group and taking charge of the administration for us. Personally, I must express my gratitude to her for her diligent research of access and suitability issues for the disabled which ensured that I was able to relax and enjoy the event.
